How to: Use Flash BIOS recovery when Flash BIOS update fails.
Solution:
NOTE: This procedure should be done by a qualified computer technician.
Remove cover, position jumper to 'Recovery', insert self-booting BIOS diskette, and turn on computer.
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard! Make sure the power is turned off and the external power cables have been disconnected before removing the computer cover.
CAUTION 1: This task should be performed by a qualified computer technician.
CAUTION 2: Please observe steps to reduce the potential damage to computer components from electrostatic discharge.
NOTE: The recovery process will differ between motherboard manufacturers. Consult the owners manual for specific instructions.
1) Remove the computer cover.
2) Find the Flash BIOS recovery jumper on the motherboard and move the jumper to the 'Recovery' mode jumper posts.
3) Insert the self-booting Flash BIOS diskette.
NOTE: The recovery software file must be located on this diskette, otherwise this procedure will not work.
4) Turn on the computer. (The computer will 'beep' and the drive light will turn on indicating that a file is being accessed. Nothing will appear on the monitor and the keyboard and mouse will not work.)
5) When the drive light turns off, turn off the computer.
6) Move the Flash BIOS recovery jumper back to its original position.
7) Replace the computer cover.
8) Turn the computer on and boot from the self-booting flash BIOS diskette. (The computer monitor and keyboard will respond normally in DOS mode but the computer will not operate correctly otherwise.)
9) Run the Flash BIOS upgrade routine again.
NOTE: Until a complete BIOS is restored to the Boot Block, the computer cannot run your programs or your hardware correctly. If the Flash BIOS upgrade cannot be loaded, load the previous BIOS version.
